SuperSport United teenager Shandre Campbell says he sees himself moving abroad after a promising breakthrough season in professional football.
The 18-year-old was promoted to the SuperSport first-team in the off-season after winning the club’s Young Player of the Year and DStv Diski Challenge Golden Boot award as they secured the reserve league title.
His form has continued into the first team as one of the most-talked-about teenagers in the country which earned him a call-up to the national U20 team this month
“In the next five years, I should be overseas,” Campbell said when asked by iDiski Times about his future ambitions.
“I will probably be overseas in the next five years or even sooner, knowing the plans going around me and how people are operating around me to give me the best chance I could get in professional football.”
With five goals and four assists in 22 games in all competitions so far this season, head coach Gavin Hunt stated he’s keeping the talented winger grounded with his feedback, something Campbell stated has been imperative for his development.
“It has contributed immensely [Hunt’s faith], without him giving me an opportunity I don’t think I would’ve been here today,” Campbell explained.
“He trusts me, he’s hard on me, he keeps me grounded, he doesn’t tell me when I do good, just to keep me grounded, he just likes to tell me when I do nonsense, so it goes in my head but it also goes out the other side and keeps me going.”
“I just want to play to the best of my ability, grab every opportunity I get whether it’s U20, Bafana Bafana or anywhere, just to keep working hard, staying grounded and humble.”
