Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has shared his thoughts on new signing Antonio Van Wyk following the winger’s impressive start at the club.
Van Wyk joined the Brazilians from Austrian outfit SV Ried during the past transfer window after spending two seasons with the European side.
The 24-year-old has wasted little time making his presence felt, delivering impressive performances whenever given the opportunity.
He has featured in 12 matches across all competitions, making seven starts and contributing five goals and two assists.
Cardoso has expressed his satisfaction with the winger’s performances, highlighting his usefulness to the team and the different options he provides through his versatility.
“We are happy with Antonio, we are pretty happy. I think that, obviously, he’s a player that also has been challenging himself,” said Cardoso.
“We have been challenging him to become stronger defensively, more reactive, more capable to counter-press, more capable to then understand the defensive moment of the game.
“He has been strong, together with Siyanda, especially those two, understanding that moment. I think that process is not complete, at all.
“Probably it will take some time more, but he has become much more versatile and much more useful and we are pretty happy with that process that we are doing together.”
