Cardoso – This Won’t Define League Title Race

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has shrugged off suggestions that Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash against Orlando Pirates will decide the outcome of the Betway Premiership title.

The Brazilians lead Pirates by just six points with the latter having played a game less ahead of the much-anticipated Betway Premiership encounter at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Both sides come into this tie on the back of morale-boosting wins after Sundowns dispatched city rivals SuperSport United 3-0 in the Tshwane Derby while the Buccaneers narrowly saw off Sekhukhune United 2-1 on Wednesday.

The Portuguese mentor emphasized that the clash between the two titans will just be a fight for maximum points but will not sway the title advantage in any direction.

“I understand how we need to approach the game. That is the most important message we need to pass through to our players,” Cardoso responded to the iDiski Times question.

“Anyway, we’re in the process of growing the team and for sure it’s under that growth that we gonna approach the game. That is basically what will happen.

“There’s always details that we need to take into consideration. We’ll do it, but it’s just another match of football.

“And whatever happen in the pitch, it’s just another match. It’s just three points.

“And whatever happens, doesn’t close or open the championship.

“It will keep it open until the end for sure to balance two teams that have their qualities.”
