Cardoso – I Was Watching Suarez

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has opened up on their decision to sign Lucas Suarez from Club Atlético Talleres.

Suarez, 29, has joined on a six-month loan with an option to make the deal permanent and arrived alongside Matias Esquivel, whose loan at the same club was cut short.

The left-footed centre-back is said to be impressing in training since his arrival and Cardoso confirmed it was a signing that was thoroughly profiled by him and the club.

“All the decisions taken by the club were in accordance with me and the Sporting Director, [Flemming Berg], so the group of coaches and the Sporting Director, so it was not one [person] decision, I watched Suarez a long time ago,” Cardoso said.

“As soon as we started discussing with Sundowns and it was clear I was coming here, we analysed that player.”

Suarez could be in line for his debut when Sundowns face SuperSport United this evening in the Tshwane Derby.
