Nabi Confirms Fresh Matlou Blow

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has confirmed that George Matlou is unlikely to feature against Stellenbosch this evening.

Matlou who only recently returned to full fitness and had an emotional 90-minute performance in the Nedbank Cup against Free Agents, broke down to tears as he won the Man of the Match award after an injury-ravaged spell on the sidelines for over a season.

However, he was taken off before the hour mark in the Soweto Derby defeat to Orlando Pirates and missed their next game against AmaZulu in mid-week as they had a 2-2 draw at FNB Stadium.

“George Matlou was injured [from the Soweto Derby] and was not available against AmaZulu and will not be available for our next game [against Stellenbosch],” Nabi confirmed about the attacking midfielder.

With Chiefs now in the second half of their campaign with 22 points from 16 games and in fifth place, Nabi says their targets are clear, winning games and building a competitive squad for the future.

“For the second round of the league, we have to take things game by game and try to do the best performance each and every game fighting for three points, if we win, while not conceding goals, it would be ideal,” he explained.

“But the most important thing is to build a very competitive team, a consistent one that gets performances and results, the processes of building a very good team passed by every game.”

Chiefs face Stellenbosch at Athlone Stadium in the Mother City on Friday evening (19h30).
