Chiefs’ Castillo Commits For Another Season

Kaizer Chiefs have secured midfielder Edson Castillo on a new one-year contract with an option to extend by a further year, ending speculation around his future at the club.

Castillo, 30, has question marks around his future with his contract initially set to expire in July and having suffered a serious injury in October last year.

His broken fibula suffered against SuperSport United has seen him miss out on their last 16 games in all competitions, but Chiefs have rewarded him for his performances with fresh terms.

“I can confirm that Edson will stay for another season, he has renewed his contract with Chiefs and there is also an option to continue for another year,” his agent Mauricio Andrade told iDiski Times.

“Edson is very happy with his extension as it was his desire to continue with club for next years to come. He is committed to help the team win trophies.”

Castillo returned to training last month and is on the road to full fitness in the coming weeks, which provides head coach Nasreddine Nabi with a wealth of midfield options, having signed Thabo Cele in the January window.

Samkelo Zwane, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Njabulo Blom and captain Yusuf Maart means Nabi is spoilt for choice for the remainder of the campaign.

Castillo is also likely to have benefitted from the sudden exit of Thatayaone Ditlhokwe as a foreign quota spot was opened upon his exit.
