Chiefs Drop Outside Top Eight After Gallants Defeat

Kaizer Chiefs moved up to seventh in the league after a 1-1 draw against Marumo Gallants in their Betway Premiership encounter at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The home side came into the fixture with no wins in their last five league games, and Gallants were aiming to make it five games without defeat.

But they got off to the worst possible start as Chiefs winger Glody Lilepo showed why he’s become and instant fan favouirte, taking on four players before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner of Washington Arubi’s net.

Having taken the lead, Gallants pushed Chiefs for the remainder of the first half, probing to get back into the game, offering an end to end spectacle at the Calabash which undoubtedly pleased the neutrals.

However, things quickly turned around as Daniel Msendami, a live wire for Gallants throughout, saw his effort parried by Bruce Bvuma, for centre-back Matome Mathiane to net a rare goal and level matters before the break.

The Zimbabwe international winger then put them into the lead with twenty minutes to go with a stunning long range free-kick which silenced the home crowd who have been upbeat since their qualification for the Nedbank Cup final.

Three points for Abdeslam Ouaddou, his fifth win in 11 games since replacing Dan Malesela at the club moved them to 30 points, and in 10th place, level on points with Chiefs who dropped to ninth, while Chippa are occupy the final MTN8 qualification spot.
