Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has blamed Amakhosi caretaker coach Cavin Johnson for the defeat against Orlando Pirates in Saturday’s Soweto Derby.
The Glamour Boys lost the derby despite leading twice through Ashley du Preez, missing out on an opportunity to move into second place.
Pirates looked the better team over large parts, and Khumalo had already predicted at half-time that the hosts could still turn the game around despite entiring the break with a 2-1 deficit.
After the match, Khumalo explained why he was left disappointed with Johnson and his technical team.
“Kaizer Chiefs were leading but not in terms of the game,” he said on SABC1.
“Both, the players and the technical team couldn’t manage the game. You can’t be scoring goals and allowing a team to score.
“Somewhere, somehow, either it’s the bench or the information the are getting is not corresponding.
“How on earth do you then substitute the entire right flank and Pirates score on the right flank immediately after that.
“[For me] it was lost on the bench. Like I said game-management, all the players didn’t understand what exactly the coach needed.
“But to be honest and precise – get quality players!”
