Du Preez On Lack Of Game-Time

Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley Du Preez has set targets for himself despite lack of game time.

Du Preez played 27 games last season in all competitions, starting 22 with five from the bench, scoring just six goals. However, things haven’t been the same since the arrival of the new technical team, which Nasreddine Nabi leads.

The 27-year-old is yet to start an official match this season as he has been used as a substitute on six occasions, and he’s got one goal under his name so far.

Speaking with the media, Du Preez explained that even though he is not playing, he has set targets for himself.

“I’ve been setting targets as a player,” the Chiefs number nine told the media.

“You have to do that despite things not going your way. You still have to push yourself and set targets. For me not playing regular, like last season, I’m not letting that come to me and let me down.

“I’ve always been working hard and trying to get myself in the starting 11, and obviously, when I get minutes, come in from the bench I’m there to help the team win a game.

“They have explained to me what he [Coach Nabi] wants from me and how he would like me to play, so at the end of the day it’s the coach’s decision to put the starting line-up⁩ who’s gonna win for the team.

“I’m just working on improving day by day every week.”
