Du Preez On Scoring Return, Mmodi And Lilepo Trio

Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley du Preez admits it was a moment to savour to return to the scoresheet after his injury and is enjoying being afforded the chance to play in his favoured role.

Du Preez, 27, agreed to sign a new two-year deal with Chiefs upon the return from his recent injury and celebrated with a winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Magesi.

“It’s not nice to have an injury while the league is on, so coming back from it, it was first to just get back being with the team, it was nice – scoring then, winning the game for the team, it’s an amazing feeling,” Du Preez said.

“As as player, a forward player, that’s what you’re there to do – winning the game against Magesi, was a good moment for me.”

He continued in the nine, position in the 3-1 win over his former club Stellenbosch, which he previously stated was his desire, alongside in-form wingers Pule Mmodi and Glody Lilepo.

The win secured a place in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals for Amakhosi, and there’s growing optimism that head coach Nasreddine Nabi is now finding the right combinations in the squad.

“Ya definitely [I’m happier and more confident playing as a nine], I’ve been wanting to play as a nine, I know the quality of Pule Mmodi and [Glody] Lilepo, when they 1v1 with defenders, so they also help the team going forward,” he said.

“They have been really consistent [with their performances] in those positions, so for me being back in the nine, making those runs and they know my strengths, I think it’s very good, we’re helping the team.”
