Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral believes Inacio Miguel and Gaston Sirino have really elevated Amakhosi to another level.
Ertugral himself coached Kaizer Chiefs between 1999 and 2003, but it was the 2001/02 campaign when his side painted Soweto black and gold after winning the Vodacom Challenge, the BP Top Eight, the Coca-Cola Cup and the African Cup Winners’ Cup – which is to date still Chiefs’ only international trophy, with that season going into history books as “Operation Vat Alles”.
He returned to Naturena between 2007 and 2009 to add more silverware to their illustrious trophy cabinet.
In this week’s iDiski Times‘ e-paper, Ertugral assessed Nabi’s start at Naturena, praising the Tunisian tactician and also explained how Miguel and Sirino have improved the squad.
“The centre-back, Inacio Miguel, he is a very, very good signing,” Ertugral stated.
“Even though he still needs to adapt, but for me, there’s lots of potential. And he’s a leader.
“I watched him against Sundowns [in the league], when the ball is in front, he’s always organising the team. That shows a leader.
“He takes responsibility, and I think he’s quick, technically gifted, and understands the dynamism of the game. That’s a great player for me.
“And obviously there’s Sirino, who is a player that you can’t miss, and I think he’s a big loss for Sundowns and a great win for Kaizer Chiefs.
“He can make things happen. You have the collectiveness, and when you have the collective you always need certain individual players that make things happen for you.
“I had that with Jabu Pule, Thabo Mooki, Shabalala, and Eyong Enoh in my Ajax time.”
Chiefs return to action on Saturday when they will host Mamelodi Sundowns in a highly-expected Carling Knockout quarter-final at a sold-out FNB Stadium
