Folz Breaks Silence On Downs Exit

Former Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Romain Folz has broken his silence on his exit from Chloorkop after he was dismissed alongside Manqoba Mngqithi last month.

Folz, 34, was an unexpected addition to Mngqithi’s technical team after previous stints with AmaZulu and Marumo Gallants.

The Frenchman had left a role with FIFA to join Masandawana but was released alongside Mngqithi and Wendell Robinson in the beginning of December.

He has now addressed his Sundowns exit for the first time, admitting he had to accept the decision of the club, and take his own learnings from his time at Chloorkop.

“It’s a matter of when you work for a club, whether it’s a big club or national team or anywhere else, you’re an employee,” he said on Soccerbeat.

“Whatever decision is being taken, you might agree with it or not agree, it might make sense to you or not, but you have to accept it.

“Not accepting it or being in confrontation or denial is not going to change anything.

“When I look back – being first in the league, being still involved in Champions League, we hadn’t lost a game in the Champions League at that point, there is always things you can do better obviously, the final of the Carling Cup [for example] we’re not happy about that, there is a lot of better things we could’ve done there.

“But ultimately the club takes a decision, you reflect afterwards on the work you’ve done, you try to point [out] what you’ve done right and what you could’ve done better and you try to improve going into your next experience – that’s at least how I see it.

“I don’t wish to give myself time to think ‘ey, was it justified or not’ because it doesn’t change anything.”
