SuperSport United captain Thulani Hlatshwayo has weighed his opinion on the Coach of the Season candidates conversation, saying for him former Orlando Prates coach Jose Riveiro deserves the gong.
The new Al Ahly coach enjoyed an impressive two-and-half year stint at Pirates, winning five domestic cups, finishing second for a third successive campaign in the league while reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League.
Though he didn’t technically finish the season with the Buccaneers Hlatshwayo believes the Spaniard has done enough to get the recognition.
“I’ll give it to José [Riveiro] because when you look at Sundowns, they have changed coaches,” said Hlatswayo in edition 207 ofiIDiski Times.
“So there should be that consistency, and now José, as much as they went out of the Champions League, they reached the Nedbank Cup final, and he has done it over and over again.”
