Hlungwani Delivers Verdict On Pirates Goal vs PLK

Former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani says Orlando Pirates stand-in captain Nkosinathi Sibisi’s goal was correctly given following their 1-0 win over Polokwane City over the weekend.

Opposition fans argued that the Buccaneers had been gifted the goal after Sibisi and Evidence Makgopa looked to be in an offside position and that the former had impeded the goalkeeper before slotting the ball into the net.

“The Principal” however disagreed with those fans saying that Pirates had been awarded a legitimate goal, as they narrowed the gap on Mamelodi Sundowns at the top to 12 points.

“We see Sibisi scoring a goal. We told you that when the goalkeeper is in control of the ball, he cannot be challenged,” Hlungwani said on Soccerzone.

“Is this one in control of the ball? Let’s go and see in Polokwane.

“Let’s see when the ball is played there, you see Sibisi there celebrating a goal. We can show you again that Kambala put these two [Sibisi and Makgopa] in an onside position.

“The ball fell, or the goalkeeper fumbled, we will show it to you. He fumbled; anyone can challenge for that ball.

“Therefore, Sibisi come and say, ‘Thank You From Heaven’ and then beautiful goal.”
