Former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani has applauded referee Olani Kwinda for the bravery in waving on play following remonstration from Mamelodi Sundowns for a penalty call.
Lucas Ribeiro Costa, who scored the only goal that saw the defending league champions narrowly edge Kaizer Chiefs 1-0, felt he was impeded by Edmilson Dove as both players tumbled into the penalty box.
Despite remonstration from the Brazilian superstar, no penalty was awarded with Hlungwani explaining that there was contact but no impact enough to award a spotkick.
“You can see that Ribeiro takes the ball and now they are inside the penalty area going to the ball,” ‘The Principal told Soccerzone.
“There’s now contact between both of them of which the referee, if you look at it there, you can see there is a hand that is holding.

“But now, FIFA has just given consideration that holding must have in impact, so if you look at it there now, you can see Ribeiro is falling after feeling some touch.
“So, the referee ignored him because it [touch] does not have an impact, so correct decision by the referee to ignore.
“There’s no impact because when there’s an impact, we must see a hand pulling somebody.
“So, now that hand is just moving there’s no pulling.
“So, it’s normal contact in football, play must be allowed to continue.”
