Hlungwani – Pirates Star Should’ve Been Red Carded

Former FIFA Referee Victor Hlungwani reckons that Orlando Pirates striker Evidence Makgopa should’ve received his marching orders for using excessive force during their Betway Premiership clash against TS Galaxy.

According to “The Principal”, the Buccaneers’ towering frontman was very lucky to escape punishment despite using excessive force when he struck an opponent with an elbow in the face in the 54th minute.

Pirates went on to beat the Rockets 2-0 courtesy of strikes from Thalente Mbatha and Relebohile Mofokeng in either half to maintain their 100% unbeaten league run.

Dissecting the incident on SABC Sport’s Soccerzone, Hlungwani was of the notion that Makgopa should not have played further part in the match.

“Makgopa, Makgopa, Evidence! We have evidence of what you did when you played against TS Galaxy,” Hlungwani said on Soccerzone.

“There’s what we call striking an opponent using excessive force or careless. A player should’ve got a yellow card. This is what we call excessive force.

“Referees are not psychologists. What we see here is a closed fist and an elbow, so this is striking an opponent using excessive force.

“The player should’ve been sent off for this because closed fist and this [elbow], whether you’re jumping, we’re not psychologists.

“He survived. He got nothing [yellow or red card caution],” the “Principal” further added.
