Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson says he will be the head coach until the team doesn’t need him anymore.
After the 0-0 draw with Cape Town City, Chiefs, once again missed the chance to move into second place as the sold-out Athlone Stadium saw neither side benefiting.
Johnson, 65, has been in charge of 12 games since assuming the caretaker head coach role after the sacking of Molefi Ntseki – whom he ironically replaced in the Head of Youth role.
With 13 games in charge, he’s overseen five wins, four draws and four defeats in all competitions.
“There’s no waves in Johburg my friend, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Johnson said when asked about his current status as interim coach.
“There are no waves in Johannesburg, am I riding the wave [until the end of the season], I think the wave I want to ride is not yet there, when I ride it I will tell you, I will really really inform you.
“But like I said, everybody thinks it’s interim, there’s no such thing as an interim coach, you take the team and you work until the team doesn’t need you anymore, so yes, I’m doing the best I can as the coach and taking this brand of football to the best we can for the last nine games.”
“…yet? I don’t know – but we’ll see, it’s all in the hands of the Almighty,” he said when asked if he’s been offered the permanent head coach role “I said…question mark.”
Amakhosi now turn their attention to second-placed Stellenbosch on Tuesday in the DStv Premiership at FNB Stadium.
