Kekana On New Style Of Play At Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana says everyone is embracing their new style of play and is happy that it’s starting to click.

The reigning Defender of the Season has returned to the starting line-up with aplomb as Sundowns have kicked into another gear after a shaky start to the season.

Having been knocked out of the MTN8 with home and away defeats to Stellenbosch in the semi-final, they coasted into the group stage of the CAF Champions League and brushed aside SuperSport United and Marumo Gallants to move top of the table after two games.

“Everyone is enjoying it, everyone is embracing it, there was stage… where there was a lot of talk outside, but people inside [were confident] but it was just about it clicking,” Kekana said.

“We are happy that it’s starting to click and we’re hoping that it can last throughout the season.”

Kekana says they are mentally ready for a game of its magnitude to face Kaizer Chiefs this early in the season based on their experience they have gained together as a group.

“We’re not getting ahead of ourselves [ahead of facing Chiefs] and that is the experience we have gained over the past seasons. For us not to think too much about this game and its consequences,” he said.

“Obviously it could help us with points gained and all that but it will also show us where we are at the level so early in the season.

“We understand that even CAF is coming up soon, so we need to pull up our socks and stay level-headed, stay with our feet firmly on the ground so we give ourselves a chance to win the game [against Chiefs].”
