Mamelodi Sundowns defender Malibongwe Khoza says as an academy graduate, him and those before him have shown what’s possible at the club.
Khoza, 21, has been one of the breakout stars of the season, having nearly joined Cape Town City ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, before Sundowns came in with a new contract offer and official promotion from the DStv Diski Challenge squad.
And the promising defender has not looked back since, making a real impression in pre-season before making 30 appearances in the senior squad across all competitions, with two goals to his name, showing his immense potential in the centre-back role.
“I don’t think everything has sunk in yet, but how I am feeling now, it’s a different feeling, different environment, the stadiums, the facilities, the players, everyone, the level of the games is just different from the development side,” Khoza said.
“I think I’m very happy with my performances, I’m very happy with my input in the team, I didn’t expect to perform like this so I’m very happy with everything I have done so far. Anything is possible, I have shown it, others have shown it.
“Previous players [from the academy], [Cassius] Mailula, have been guys who have shown what’s possible, if you just play your game and focus on yourself.”
Khoza will be aiming to build on from his debut season in the senior squad next season, having shown his capabilities at Masandawana at the highest level.
