Former Moroka Swallows head coach Steve Komphela has responded to comments from the club’s team manager Elasto Kapowehza that the coach was the instigator of the players’ strike last year.
The administrator had been responding to some of the revelations made by Komphela about the challenges he faced at the club before parting ways with them.
Swallows players were reported to have gone on a strike in December 2023 10 days before their DStv premiership match with SuperSport United over wage issues. Swallows went to dismiss a number of players because of the protest.
The side went on to miss two league matches against Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns later that month which led to the PSL Disciplinary Committee handing the Dube Birds a hefty fine and points deductions.
Then club announced they had parted ways with Komphela last week. The coach spoke to IDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in the latest dition of the newspaper where he called Kapowehza a perpetual liar.
“You can’t compete with a liar, man,” Komphela told iDiski Times.
“I’m telling you anybody in their life seeking to race and compete with a liar you are in trouble. Elasto [Kapowezha] is a perpetual liar.
“It’s just sad and I hear what you are saying. You are trying to say “an official of the club” and all that. Elasto is a liar of note and very soon he will be found [out].”
“But I’m saying I’m not out there to smear people and all that. I just move on. It was unfortunate but as I said I had no time to compete with liars again, if upholding high standards is being larger than life, listen, may it please happen more often.
“There has to be standards. But people who don’t want standards are people who don’t want clarity. And people who don’t want clarity are people who like chaos and people who like chaos are people who want to thrive in malicious ways.”
“I am not that person. I want clarity. I want frameworks. I want standards. I want to know where did it went wrong? And people who don’t want to know where did it go wrong are people who know that they are very malicious, manipulative, and to an extent I’m tempted to use a word that is used commonly in politics, but I wouldn’t use it in sports, but they’re quite dodgy. I’m not a dodgy person.”
