New Stellenbosch FC signing Thabiso Lebitso has expressed delight after completing a move to his new club this week.
The 30-year-old completed a permanent transfer from Orlando Pirates in an agreement that saw the Buccaneers secure the services of midfielder Mthetheli Mthiyane from Stellies early last month.
Lebitso spent two memorable seasons at the Orlando Amstel Arena side after he had been signed from Chippa United.
During his time at Pirates, Lebitso made 27 appearances with a single goal and four assists though his stay was partly halted by recurring injury problems.
After being unveiled as Stellies’ first new signing ahead of the 2026/27 season under the stewardship of head coach Gavin Hunt, with the pair having worked together at the Chilli Boys, Lebitso spoke highly of his new home.
“I’m very excited to be here at Stellenbosch FC,” he said as per the club’s website.
“This is a very good club, with good structures, so I’m happy to be part of the team.
“Stellenbosch FC is a professional club that does things in a proper way in terms of structure and organisation. For me, it’s all about professionalism, so I hope to add value, and I’m looking forward to the new season.
“The Club has a lot of young players and has done well with that approach, and I can add value for those younger players with my experience. Hopefully, we can add more pages to the club’s history books together as well.”
He won one Betway Premiership title, one Carling Knockout, one MTN8 and one Nedbank Cup during his Pirates days.
