Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart says he’s not been affected by the speculation around his long-term future at the club.
Maart, 29, was strongly linked with a return to Sekhukhune United with his original three-year contract set to expire at the end of the current season.
Babina Noko made no secret of their desire to lure him back to the club whom he led to the top-flight and broke into the senior national team with as their influential captain, before Chiefs came knocking.
But with Amakhosi’s technical team keen on retaining the player, as reported by iDiski Times, the club opted to activate his option, with a further year also agreed in principle to secure his future.
While Maart was not prepared to discuss in intricacies of contractual discussions, he stated it’s not something that affected him over the past few weeks.
“As a footballer you always need to be strong and expect anything in life because there’s only one almighty at the end of the day, he can only out things out for you in a different way, but only if you can help yourself he’ll help you at the end of the day,” Maart said.
“So my mood, my mind will always be the person that I am, I’m always going to be the positive person, always a hard working person, so there’s no changes [in my mindset based on the speculation].”
Maart has scored two goals, with three assists in 30 games for Chiefs across all competitions this season and is expected to lead the side against his former club Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby on Saturday at FNB Stadium.
