Maboe Reflects on First Season With Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe has reflected on his first season with the club, having joined the Glamour Boys at the start of the campaign.

The 31-year-old officially parted ways with Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of last season, following a loan spell at SuperSport United.

His move to Naturena marked a sentimental homecoming, as he was previously part of the club’s youth development academy during his teenage years.

In the early stages of the campaign, Maboe struggled with an injury that kept him on the sidelines until he finally made his debut in October 2025 during a CAF Confederation Cup match against Simba SC.

Upon his return, he quickly established himself as a cog in the Chiefs midfield, accumulating 25 appearances across all competitions and registering an assist in the process.

He also helped the team put together a strong run in the group stages of the Confederation Cup, where they agonisingly missed out on the knockout rounds solely on goal difference.

Domestically, Amakhosi have secured a third-place finish in the league standings, collecting 54 points from 29 matches and guaranteeing themselves a return to the Confederation Cup next season.

Reflecting on the campaign, Maboe expressed his happiness at being part of the team’s visible turnaround, especially when compared to their recent struggles in past seasons.

“I think it has been pretty good to be part of the progress we have made as a team, growing together,” Maboe said as per the club’s website.

“I am very proud of the work we have been putting in, and I’m looking to continue that path next season.”

Additionally, Maboe is part of the Bafana Bafana preliminary squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off across the USA, Mexico, and Canada this June.
