Starting line-ups for this evening’s Betway Premiership encounter between Magesi FC and Kaizer Chiefs at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium have been confirmed.
It’s a battle for CAF inter-club competition qualification and league status preservation which will make this an even enticing clash.
Dikwena Tsa Meetse find themselves rooted at the base of the league table with 17 points from 23 outings as they battle to avoid the drop out of the top flight, while Amakhosi are out to rack up their fifth consecutive victory.
Allan Freese’s men fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Sekhukhune United in their last league tie which further dampened their survival hopes for a side that has won just three league matches all season.
Chiefs on the other hand come from a morale boosting 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium on Sunday to further strengthen their chances of a top three finish. Flavio Silva and Glody Lilepo got on the scoresheet in that tie, with the former embracing challenges of playing for a big club.
“Since I was young I always wanted to play for a big club with big expectations so I am very happy in this environment, the Guinea-Bissau marksman told the club’s website.
“It’s good pressure, a responsibility to compete for and win trophies. I prefer it this way. When you play for a club like this it means you are playing at a high level.”
On Focus For Maximum Points Against Magesi
“The last game is in the past. We are going for another three points. We come with big ambition and we want our fans to leave happy again,” he added.
“We [know] them. We know they have a lot to play for, but we also have a target, to qualify for CAF competition, so we will do our best to win.”
Goalkeeper and captain Brandon Petersen, who made his long-awaited return from injury in the success over the Rockets, making it 12 clean sheets in 17 matches, spoke about his return to action as well as tonight’s encounter.
“Coming back a few days ago was amazing for me, especially to get a good result. Prior to that we had three good results so I felt a bit of pressure, personally but it was good to win with a clean sheet,” he said.
“We know it’s going to be a dog fight because they are fighting for survival and we are fighting to finish in the top three. We must just go out there and stick to our game plan, do our best and I believe we have the quality to come out on top.”
