Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana striker Evidence Makgopa has been ruled out for the next two months with knee injury.

With a niggle that was played through during the 2026 FIFA World Cup and pre-season, it’s been advised by the club’s medical team that he needs an extended period of rest to recover.

While it doesn’t require surgery, the towering striker will be looking to recover swiftly to return to the club and national team selection.

However, it’s highly unlikely that he would feature in the upcoming 2026 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for South Africa.

The 26-year-old has racked up 102 appearances for Orlando Pirates over the past three seasons, scoring 23 goals with nine assists, winning eight trophies, including the domestic treble last season.

His absence has seen Yanela Mbuthuma continue as the starting striker in the XI at the Buccaneers with Boitumelo Radiopane on the bench, while new signing Sebastian Pedersen who arrived last week – and Sifiso Luthuli are the other options within the squad.
