Makhaula On Pirates’ Race Towards Finish Line

Orlando Pirates midfielder Makhehleni Makhaula shared his thoughts on the title race, stating that the team will grind points, no matter how they do it.

Buccaneers find themselves near the Betway Premiership after defeating stubborn Polokwane City by 1-0. The Sea Robbers closed the gap between them and league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to 12 points with three games in hand. After defeating Sundowns a few weeks ago, the title hopes remained alive for the Buccaneers and there is more belief now that they can push it till the end.

With Jose Riveiro leaving at the end of the season after spending three seasons with the side, winning five trophies and leading the side to back-to-back CAF Champions League spots, Pirates aim to end 13 years of not lifting the league title and end Sundowns’ dominance.

Speaking to Carol Tshabalala, Makhaula stated that they will grind results, and doesn’t matter how they win games at this stage what matters is three points.

“There’s a lot to fight for, I think as much as we grind the points it doesn’t matter how we grind sometimes it’s gonna be ugly,” he told SuperSport TV.

“Sometimes it’s gonna be beautiful at the end of the day we will get three points, and keep on going, you will never know what is gonna happen at the end of the season.

Pirates’ next league encounter will be against relegation-threatened SuperSport United after facing MC Alger in the second leg of the CAF Champions League and then Marumo Gallants in the Nedbank Cup semis.
