Manqoba – We Are Not Going To War With Chiefs

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi says they are set for a game of football not war against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Chiefs come into the game filled with confidence with two wins in their opening two league games: 2-1 win over Marumo Gallants and a 3-1 win over AmaZulu away from home.

And their first home game of the season at the Calabash is against the reigning champions Sundowns – who have won their opening two games as well.

Mngqithi’s side secured a 2-0 win over SuperSport United and a 4-1 thumping over Marumo Gallants and pre-match he stated they were appreciative of the joint press conference, suggesting ‘there’s no war, but a football match that will be played.”

Furthermore, there’s a genuine excitement brewing that it could be a sold-out Calabash on Saturday afternoon.

“I think we thrive in playing against big crowds, I think it’s one thing as Sundowns we have grown and developed to like, but one must say, we’re playing against a very good team that has also started very well,” he said.

“It’s a team that’s looking rejuvenated – and that makes them a very difficult team to play against, they are very dangerous, on transition with the front three, it makes it a game that requires a lot of focus, humility and a certain amount of respect I must say.”

The two sides meet at 15h00 at the iconic 2010 FIFA World Cup arena.
