Sekhukhune United assistant coach Paulus Masehe has brushed off suggestions that the technical team were mandated to win the MTN8 this season.
Masehe was standing in for head coach Cedric Kaze for the post-match press conference due to the suspension he’s currently serving after receiving a red card against Orlando Pirates in the mid-week league defeat.

Sekhukhune lost three consecutive games against the Buccaneers, with the 2-0 loss sandwiched between a 1-0 and 3-0 defeat in the two-legged semi-final in the domestic cup competition.
There’s been speculation bubbling now that there could be change within the technical team already after the indifferent start to the season, which Masehe feels is premature.
“It’s still early in the league to think about setbacks and mandates – and of course, being in the semi-final of the MTN8, you would want to then give yourself to get into the final, but it wasn’t to be,” Masehe said.
“There was no pressure whatsoever about us wining this cup and also in the league we understand there’s a whole lot of games to be played, it’s a long marathon.
“If we now lose our heads to start thinking there’s a whole lot of damage here and there, then we will end up losing all that we have worked hard for up until this time.”
Babina Noko will now turn their attentions to the league with TS Galaxy, Stellenbosch and Richards Bay up next before the upcoming FIFA International break for the opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
