Mamelodi Sundowns attacking midfielder Tashreeq Matthews believes the team’s emphatic 5-2 victory over AmaZulu has given them a confidence boost ahead of their MTN8 semi-final second-leg clash against Golden Arrows.
The two sides will meet at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00.
Abafana Bes’thende head into the encounter with a 1-0 advantage after securing a shock victory over the Tshwane giants in the first leg in Pretoria last week.
Matthews says the response against AmaZulu was important after the disappointing result against Arrows.
He stated they produced an impressive display in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday, with the five-goal performance providing plenty of encouragement ahead of Sunday’s decisive encounter.
The midfielder also found the back of the net against Usuthu, and believes scoring will further boost his confidence going into the crucial semi-final.
“Obviously, it’s very important after a loss, and then winning, getting three points in the league, and then on to the next game, which is MTN8, which is the second leg,” said Matthews.
“It’s positive for us because from a win, positive display, very good.
“Also, I scored, so for me, it’s great, you know, whenever anyone scores, whenever a player scores, it always gives you more confidence to do well.
“Also, we won, so for us also, we feel very confident for the next game.”
