Orlando Pirates extended their lead at the top of the Betway Premiership standings to three points after hammering Kruger United 4-0 at Mbombela Stadium.
Pirates started the game like defending champions as they looked to keep Kruger uncomfortable. Buccaneers were fortunate enough as their pressure paid off inside third minute after Kamogelo Sebelebele was fouled inside the box, penalty given.
On form Ghampani Lungu stepped up and converted the penalty to make it 1-0, taking his tally to two league goals this season.
Zambian international Lungu was forced to leave the pitch inside 13th minute after suffering an injury, Bafana Bafana international Oswin Appollis replaced him.
The Buccaneers went into the break leading 1-0, and in control of the game.
Second half began, nine minutes into the second half Boitumelo Radiopane doubled the lead through after a brilliant defense splitting pass from Appollis 2-0 Buccaneers extend the lead.
The defending champions enjoyed more of the ball, while Kruger Utd kept on losing the ball in crucial parts of the pitch. The Sea Robbers kept on threatening on counter-attack.
With 10 minutes remaining in normal time, Thapelo Mokobodi played a brilliant pass to Appollis who set-up Yanela Mbuthuma for the third goal to make 3-0, three points secured by the look of things.
The tie was far from over as Mbuthuma grabbed his brace and Pirates’ fourth in the 92nd minute.
Pirates remain top of the league table, while Mamelodi Sundowns is playing tomorrow against Milford FC at home. The Sea Robbers will shift thwir focus to the CAF Champions League this coming weekend when they face Mauritius side La Cure away from home.
