Orlando Pirates forward Ghampani Lungu looks set for a return to the Zambia national team after two years.

Lungu, 27, joined Pirates in the off-season from Siwelele and is no stranger to South African football, having arrived as a teenager back in 2018 when he joined SuperSport United from Power Dynamos.

He made his debut for the senior national team at the age of 19 and has gone on to make 15 appearances, but of late fell out of favour in the Chipolopolo.

But after three goals and an assist in his opening six games for the Buccaneers, he could be lined up for his country again.

“I don’t want to pre-empt. You will see the squad which will be announced. They are all Zambians,” head coach George Lwandamina recently stated about Lungu recently to Bola News.

“It is good for the country, and if there is that competition in the team, then you have a team. If players can fight, then you have a team. We are following them.”

The other player in question was Clatous Chama, who has been in fine form under Steve Barker at Simba SC since his return to the club.
