Cape Town Spurs head coach Ernst Middendorp has claimed Orlando Pirates also played under protest against Moroka Swallows and made it clear that 15th place is their target.
Spurs suffered successive league defeats for the first time since November, going down 2-0 to Chippa United on Wednesday.
The Urban Warriors remain rooted at bottom of the table, two points behind Richards Bay, who also dropped points against Mamelodi Sundowns, with Middendorp insisting their target has not changed despite their recent setbacks.
“Position 15 is our target, we said very clear position 15 is our target. Position 15 has 14 points, and position 16 where we are, 12 points,” Middendorp told the media.
“What should we do? Should we now stop, eight games to go, and some protests in the oven – let’s wait and see how this going.”
Spurs’ match against Swallows at Athlone Stadium was played under protest, as revealed by iDiski Times and Middendorp claimed that Pirates also submitted a protest against Swallows before their 1-1 draw at Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday night.
“I think if I heard today Pirates earlier put a protest. It’s interesting to see there’s a little bit to talk about,” he continued.
“I have my opinion of what I‘ve seen today on the referee side. We had a terrible officiating on Sunday everybody saw it.”
This publication heard from people on the ground that Middendorp’s claim is not true but attempts by iDiski Times to confirm whether Pirates did indeed play under protest turned futile as there was no official response from the club at the time of publishing.
