Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena says he’s losing his love for the game and has questioned whether he’s good enough for the profession.
Mokwena was furious after the 0-0 draw with Polokwane City, which marked their final DStv Premiership game of 2023 ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations break.
But in the post-match press conference, he appeared frustrated and demoralised to an extent and hinted of some negativity brewing about him.
And as he signed off to wish the media well for the new year and festive season as a whole, he stated he’s not in a good space.
“Sorry I’m feeling a bit grumpy, I didn’t give you the best press conference, but this is my mood for the last couple of weeks now, but anyway this is football,” Mokwena said.
“This game of football… sometimes, every single day it eats away my passion for this game, I’m slowly losing my love for this game and it’s very sad.
“It’s very, very sad because I was born into football and I look at how this game is going and I say to myself, ‘maybe I’m not cut out for this game’, I’m in a space where I say to myself, ‘maybe I’m not good enough to be a football coach’.”
Mokwena led Sundowns to a record 11 wins to open the 2023/24 season before their back-to-back goalless draws with Cape Town City and Rise and Shine.
