Mothwa On Competition With Ofori

AmaZulu FC goalkeeper Veli Mothwa holds no grudges having to compete with Richard Ofori, saying they support each other even though he admits the pressure is upon them in how they’ve conceded goals.

The two have been manning the AmaZulu goals this season with the Ghanaian enjoying more game time than Mothwa.

Ofori has played 12 of Usuthu’s 17 league matches with Mothwa playing two ahead of their Betway Premiership clash with Sekhukhune United on Wednesday.

Speaking at a back-to-school event in his home village Zebediela in association with his foundation, the Veli Mothwa Foundation, where they gave away uniforms and other learning materials, the 34-year-old said they support each other but that their biggest concern is limiting goals they’ve conceded.

“In the goalkeeping department there’re no grudges and there’s no sad faces and everyone’s head is up and whoever is playing first we need to support him so he can do his best,” Mothwa told reporters.

“It’s not the first time to compete with the greatest on the African continent. I have been competing with Ronwen Williams, I have been with some other guys like Daniel Akpeyi. So, it’s not different.

“But for now I feel like the pressure is on us. If you can check the goals that we have conceded in the team, we have conceded more goals as it is.

“It’s nice competition and we are willing to see how the season proceeds.”
