Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi says he won’t judge the performances of Njabulo Blom but acknowledged there’s room for improvement.
Blom, 25, returned to Chiefs on a season-long loan from Major League Soccer (MLS) side St Louis City surrounding major excitement as he developed into one of the finest talents in the United States of America and was touted for a move to Europe at one point.
However, after falling out of favour at the club, Chiefs swooped in with what many considered as a major coup to convince him to return to South African football and was expected to feature as a key figure in the club’s midfield.
But he’s started only nine league games thus far and several times as a right-back and in the 1-0 win over Magesi he was handed an opportunity to start as a six, in the absence of suspended Thabo Cele, but was hauled off at the break for George Matlou.
It’s now drawn question marks over the South Africa international midfielder, who was said to have been lacking match fitness upon his arrival due to the different football calendar of USA football.

“I don’t want to judge the performances of one of my players, here we will look at different data and videos about his performance to try and find out why… [he’s not playing as expected],” Nabi said.
“We as well believe he was not in his best condition today and was not his best performance today, we agree with that but we will take a look at it, using every tools that we have.”
Blom has featured 17 times for Chiefs this season and was substituted at half-time on three different occasions this season.
