Nabi After Third Straight Sundowns Defeat

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has opened up on their 1-0 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns, which marked the third successive defeat this season.

Sundowns have a 12-match unbeaten run against Chiefs dating back to April 2021 when they beat them at Loftus Versfeld under then head coach Gavin Hunt.

The dominance from Masandawana in the league, currently on course for an eighth successive league title has translated to this fixture and Nabi admits there’s a clear gulf in class with a side who are now on a decade-long drought for silverware.

“First of all congrats to Sundowns for the three points, I feel frustrated for my players, for the fans, for everyone supporting Kaizer Chiefs today,” Nabi said. “

We feel we had a strong performance that could have given us something better than what we go, but that is football and we have to accept it.”

Nabi went on to contexulaise the difference in the three defeats this season which came in the home and away league ties and the Carling Knockout.

“If you compare the three game we played, the first game if it wasn’t for referee mistakes we don’t lose, the second for the cup it was a completly off day for us, we were outclassed in every way,” he explained.

“We feel it was bad luck to lose, after the performance, but we have to put the three games in context, it’s a team that hasn’t won a cup in ten years and a team who has won seven league titles in a row and top of African football and the other team in the process of building itself.

“I feel the players feel the prestige of the name, even if you look at the log, there’s a big difference but on the field you couldn’t tell today the difference in terms of points in the league, it was not reflected on the field, we’re on a good way for better outcomes in the future.”

Chiefs are currently in eighth place, 29 points off the league leaders Sundowns who have played one game more.
