Nabi Defiant After Chiefs Drubbing

New Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi is confident his ‘inexperienced’ squad will learn from their mistakes and they will build a strong squad.

Nabi’s side succumbed to a 4-0 thrashing at the Toyota Stadium at the hands of his former club Young Africans on Sunday afternoon.

Teenagers Nkosana Mbuthu and Mfundo Vilakazi earned starts, while Samkelo Zwane and Mduduzi Shabalala were also in the XI.

It showcased his faith in the development products at the club after their pre-season camp in Turkey, but also the lack of options currently at his disposal, with the club’s Sporting Director confirming more signings will be provided to add experience to the team.

“It’s obviously disappointing, today’s loss, but it’s a friendly game, we are busy learning from our mistakes and we’ll build a strong team, definitely,” Nabi told SuperSport TV after the game on Sunday afternoon.

“Despite the loss, great things did happen and we will build upon those good things that happened to make great performances in the future.

“I’d like to congratulate Young Africans on the performances today, we have a young team that lacks experience, they are learning, and will learn from their mistakes, we will build a strong team.”

Chiefs will now continue their pre-season in Botswana, with the 2024/25 Betway Premiership only starting on 12 September.
