Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi says he came here to build a team and can’t be happy with just the Nedbank Cup as he is not a small coach and Amakhosi is not a small team.
Nabi was speaking after their 0-0 draw, which saw Amakhosi miss out on the top eight of the league and thus not qualifying for next season’s MTN8 competition and this is on the back of a nine-game winless run in the league.
For all the adulation of ending the decade-long trophy drought with the Nedbank Cup success, Nabi says he wanted to be honest and said they are sure they can rectify the issues that unfolded this season which saw them one spot above last season’s 10th placed finish, the worst in the Premier Soccer League history.
“We came here to build a team – it’s not possible to build and get results immediately at the same time, remember after Nedbank I said I’m very happy but it’s still a process, I am honest like that,” he said at FNB Stadium on Saturday night.
“We working for coherence, it’s not possible to say ah we won we are very and if you lose it’s a process, if I win, if I lose, it’s still a process. Why do we need so much time in this process? Because it’s clear for us what direction this needs, what technical decisions are needed.
“If you observe and analyse with objectivity, we are number two in chances created, but why don’t we score? Like today was like the entire season, three or four opportunities, we hit the post, this is the problem of the team this season.
“Okay and some other things but it’s not big problems, it depends on quality, we need some quality for the team to stay in the top half, I don’t agree with Cedric, I don’t want to repeat all the time after 10 years we are happy about that.”
Nabi emphasised the fact that a team like Chiefs should never be satisfied with just winning a domestic cup as a club of its magnitude should be winning these types of competitions on a consistent basis.
“I’m not a small coach, I’m not happy for the Nedbank, I’m not a small coach, not in a small team, I’m in a big team – it should be normal for Chiefs to win and play for the Nedbank title, you understand me?
“I want every season, Chiefs need to play for the title. this is my objective, I am honest, I don’t need to defend myself – I know my quality, I have big confidence…”
