Nabi Not Considering Lilepo Switch

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi says he won’t consider moving Glody Lilepo into a more central striker role as it’s not his natural position.

The 27-year-old DR Congo international winger has become an instant fan-favourite at Chiefs since his January transfer from French club Valenciennes in a reported R9m deal.

With three goals and one assist in his first eight games, Lilepo has emerged as one of their key attacking threats and his imposing figure has raised questions if he could fulfil a role as the number nine in the squad, given their lack of consistent goalscorers.

“His first position is winger, right or left, he’s a winger, but as a coach, you need to give more chances, offensively, sometimes in France he played second striker for Valenciennes, but it’s not his [natural] position,” Nabi explained.

“Today in the last 20 minutes I wanted to push [Pule] Mmodi as a winger, with more strikers, more players in the final 18 [area], I think you observed that we continued to create more chances, but not score.”

Chiefs have scored 22 goals in 21 league games this season, ranking seventh in the scoring charts amongst the 16 teams in the South African top-flight.
