Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi was left pleased with his side after their 1-0 win over Chippa United in their Betway Premiership clash on Sunday evening.
Chiefs secured their first clean sheet since his appointment in their tenth league outing as they moved into seventh place with 15 points and a +1 goal difference.
Mduduzi Shabalala’s stunning solo goal in the first half proved the difference as they ended a three-match winless run going into 2025.
“We needed to start on the front foot from the beginning, in the first half we were good, not very good but good, the only issue was to score the first goal and in the second half we played with fear,” he told SuperSport TV after the game.
“When you play with fear, you play with the handbrake, you don’t go forward or back, but it’s understandable, it’s psychological because the last results were not very positive and the players wanted so much to get three points that sometimes they felt like not going forward, just to sit back and defend. But after these three points, we are confident we can build from this.”
It was Nabi’s first clean sheet in the league since his appointment as Amakhosi head coach and he suggested confidence will improve with it and for goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma who has been the third player between the sticks this season after Fiacre Ntwari and Brandon Petersen.
“Congratulations to everyone, Bruce as well, he made good saves, but we’re not there in our quality of game that we want to put forward but we believe going forward we can build and have more consistent quality games.”
Chiefs next game will be in the Western Cape when Cape Town City host them at the DHL Stadium next Sunday.
