Nabi On Mmodi’s Early Miss

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi was left pleased with the mentality of Pule Mmodi after spurning an early chance to score in the Soweto Derby.

Chiefs fell to a 1-0 loss to their fierce rivals Orlando Pirates with a last-minute penalty from Patrick Maswanganyi in an evenly fought match.

But the complexion of the game could have been very different had Mmodi taken the opportunity to round goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, who, to his credit, did well to prevent the Amakhosi attacker from finding the opener early on.

“Mmodi, it’s true he missed an opportunity and that’s part of the game, but we need to congratulate him because after that, his mentality was very good,” Nabi said about the winger.

“He made a lot of runs, he helped the team defensively, offensively, he was one of the best players on the pitch. He didn’t put his head down, the opportunity that he missed and that’s part of football, we need to encourage him.”

The 31-year-old has scored six goals with four assists in 40 games since joining the club on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract at Golden Arrows in July 2023.
