Orlando Pirates defender Olisa Ndah has opened up on receiving the captain’s armband by Jose Riveiro this season.
Ndah, 26, has had a great start to the 2024/25 campaign, finding the back of the net once in Bucs’ five matches so far.

With Bucs captain Innocent Maela often starting games from the bench, Ndah has been carrying the armband for the Sea Robbers this campaign – something he says he didn’t expect.
“I think it’s an opportunity, I’m really excited for it,” he told centerkick.
“I wasn’t expecting it at all. It’s just an opportunity given to me by the club, which I really appreciate.
“And getting into the finals of the MTN8 again, I think we’re going to have a great season and I’m excited.”
Ndah’s club form has earned him a recall to Nigeria and he made his first appearance in 17 months, when the Super Eagles defeated Benin 3-0 in the opening match of their Africa Cup of Nations qualification, coming off the bench in the second half.
“I think nothing has changed, with the selection that have been coming out they have been good,” he added, when asked whether he felt unfairly treated after missing out on previous Nigeria camps.
“You can’t make everyone happy, you can’t invite everyone. I think there is a limited number you can invite.
“The selections have been wonderful, I’m just happy to be here. I take it one day at a time and I’m always excited to be called up, whether it’s a friendly game or whatever, I’m always excited to be here.”
Nigeria face Rwanda in their second 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, with the match kicking off at 15:00 on Tuesday.
