Ntseki Provides Update On Gonzalez Ahead Of Sundowns Clash

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki has provided an update on new striker Jassond Gonzalez ahead of their first leg MTN8 semi-final against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 24-year-old completed his loan move from Real Santa Cruz earlier this month but is still awaiting the necessary paperwork to be registered for Amakhosi.

It might put a hold on his debut until after the upcoming FIFA International break according to Ntseki.

“When it comes to Gonzalez playing this week or any other time, I think we are still waiting for the paperwork to be finalised,” he said when asked by iDiski Times about his progress.

“But, if ever everything is done on time, I think he’ll be able to play for us when we come back from the national break.”

While the former Bafana Bafana coach is happy with the progress of Pule Mmodi, Tebogo Potsane, Ashley du Preez and Mduduzi Mdantsane in recent weeks, he stated they are also working on variations to be prepared for various situations over the course of the season.

“I always say any team performance is affected by three phases,” he added when asked bu this publication about his attacking options other than the current starters.

“You’ve got your top-four, the front-four, maybe they’re getting it right, they are winning games, scoring goals, but there will be times where there will be a loss of form.

“When they lose form, who have you prepared to come in to give you more than what you’re getting from that player?

“There will be times when [from] your top-four you lose one of them due to injuries, what have you prepared when that eventuality comes? Or in a situation when one of your top-four gets a red card, how do you still get a good game?

“That is very important for you to look at those phases of the game, and challenges that might come – the game itself will always throw those challenges at you.”

Chiefs host Sundowns on Saturday afternoon at the Calabash (15h00).
