Stellenbosch FC have announced the signing of Chumani Butsaka on a long-term deal from Cape Town Spurs, as reported by iDiski Times.
Butsaka, 22, has had his release clause triggered by the Cape Winelands outfit having made close to 120 appearances across all competitions for the Ikamva side since coming through the youth ranks in 2020. He was the captain of the side last season and also featured in the COSAFA Cup in 2022, netting on debut in Bafana Bafana’s 2-1 win over Madagascar.
The Cape Winelands outfit confirmed Butsaka’s arrival at the club via their social media platforms on Tuesday to all but sign on the dotted line.
“We are delighted to welcome Chumani to the Club,” Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie said on the club’s website.
“At 22 years of age, he has already made over 100 professional appearances and shown himself to be a leader, which is a testament to his ability and maturity on and off the field of play.
“We congratulate Cape Town Spurs on the excellent development of this player, who we believe will play a key role in the future success of our ambitious Club.”
He will don the number 15 jersey for his new club and could feature as early as Wednesday when Stellies take on Golden Arrows in their 2024/25 Betway Premiership opener.
