Onyango On Stellies Move

New Stellenbosch FC signing Brian Onyango is targeting more silverware in the Cape Winelands following his exit from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 30-year-old Kenyan international joined Stellies on a free transfer after a trophy-laden career at Chloorkop where he won four Betway Premiership titles, one Nedbank Cup, one MTN8 and one African Football League trophy.

The towering centre-back admitted that he could not turn down Stellies when they came calling and is now looking to transfer his success experience at a “club with ambitions”.

“First of all, I would like to thank the almighty God for giving me another opportunity to showcase my talent, and the coach, technical staff, and management for affording me the chance to join the club,” Onyango told Stellies’ official website.

“Stellenbosch FC is a good, competitive club with ambitions to challenge for the title and in the cup competitions. There are very few players who could say no to a project like this.

“I’ve had the opportunity to meet and train with my new teammates and I have learned that they are good human beings, so I’m looking forward to getting started with the team.

“I’m also looking forward to sharing some of my experience with the squad and at the same time learning from their experience, because football is a journey where you have to keep learning every day.

“As for the season ahead, I was always taught to leave the jersey better than I found it, so I am looking forward to a good campaign and helping the team do even better than last year,” he further said.

During his time in Tshwane, Onyango featured in close to 150 matches scoring 10 goals since joining Masandawana after briefly leaving Maritzburg United (now, Durban City FC) in 2020.
