Orlando Pirates have confirmed head coach Jose Riveiro will leave the club at the end of the season upon the expiry of his contract.
Riveiro’s future has been hotly debated with his original three-year deal set to expire, and he has now officially communicated to management that he will not renew his contract.
It comes as a major blow to the club, with the Spaniard, who joined the club with mixed reception, winning five domestic titles since his arrival, and remains in contest for the league, Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League for the remainder of his stay.
“His professionalism and commitment to the Club’s best interests prompted a timely announcement, ensuring business as usual for the remainder of the season while simultaneously creating an opportunity for the Club to prepare for the future,” the club statement read.
