Durban City midfielder Brooklyn Poggenpoel has reflected on his rapid rise in football and his disappointment at missing out on the final Bafana Bafana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The midfielder was named in Hugo Broos’ preliminary squad but was among the players who failed to make the final cut.

Poggenpoel has established himself as an important player for the KZN outfit, playing a key role last season before carrying that form into the new campaign.
While he admits he would have loved to be part of Bafana’s World Cup squad, Poggenpoel believes there is still plenty more to achieve in his career.
He is also pleased with the direction his career is taking and knows his priority is to continue performing consistently for Durban City.
“Look, at the end of the day, I just have to do my job,” said Poggenpoel.
“It doesn’t matter what shirt I’m wearing. So, I’m happy with the trajectory of my career.
“Obviously, I lost in the World Cup squad, but I feel there’s more. We can do more. And when the collective does well, individuals will achieve more.”
