Durban City head coach Khalil Ben Youssef has hailed referee Jelly Chavani as one of the best referees in the country.
City fell to a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates with a 120th winner from Giamphani Lungu, coming off from the bench with a stunner.
It outdid some excellent work from the reigning Nedbank Cup champions who played who over an hour and half with 10 men after Brooklyn Poggenpoel was sent off for the foul which led to the penalty for the opener.
It was a second yellow card, but to some arguable, with the penalty already given for the foul but with Yanela Mbuthuma not in control of possession, could have potentially escape the card.
But Ben Youssef says he has no qualms about the decision from Chavani, in fact hailing him as one of the best officials in South African football.
“Congratulations to the referee he’s one of the best I have seen, I’ve been here in two years, he managed the game very well, I have to look back at the incident again, but the referee had a good game,” he said when asked about the penalty by iDiski Times.
The former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach also confirmed the absence of influential midfielder Kyle Jurgens is due to suspension.
“Kyle he is just suspended, he will be back soon next game.”
City will now turn their attention to the league, as they host Golden Arrows at Chatsworth Stadium.
