Riveiro On Pirates Depth

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has shrugged off suggestions that they do not have enough depth as they compete in three different competitions.

Pirates have already played close to 40 matches in all competitions this season and they already managed to win the MTN8, reached Nedbank Cup semifinal, are in the CAF Champions League quarterfinals and still have a glimmer of hope in the Betway Premiership title chase.

Riveiro has used close to 35 players to compete in all these competitions with the exception of Zakhele Lepasa and Thuso Moleleki due to respective injuries.

The Spaniard mentor recently introduced 19-year-old Mbekezeli Mbokazi who was promoted from the DStv Diski Challenge and netted his first senior goal in the Nedbank Cup this past weekend.

When Riveiro was asked if he had enough depth to compete in all these competitions, he comfortably responded that he has the privilege of 37 players, which is more than enough as compared to other countries when you find a team only allowed to register 25 players.

“I have 37 players in the squad, imagine 37, usually in most of the competitions around the world you cannot have more than 25, we have 37,” Riveiro said.

“So, number cannot be a problem. We have quality in every department, in each and every position.

“This thing is not about who’s playing; it’s about staying together and being competitive no matter what, no matter who is in the starting 11.

“So far, we doing that.”
