Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro says he is happy to have Relebohile Mofokeng at the Buccaneers and has a special future ahead of him.
The Spanish mentor could not rule out the starlet possibly moving abroad after he had trialled at English Premiership side Wolverhampton Wanderers following his impressive first team debut in October last year.
The 19-year-old had another consistent season in 2023/24 with Pirates that saw him cap it off with the Young Player of the Season award and call-ups to the senior national team. On top of that he has been linked with interest from clubs in Spain and Scotland.
The player has spoken about how good the experience in the UK was while also referring other questions to around his future to club management.
Asked if Mofokeng will be with the Buccaneers for the whole season or if there is work done behind the scenes to secure a transfer, Riveiro said what matters is that the player is with his side currently and they need to capitalise on his presence.
“We are in football you never know what is going to happen,” said Riveiro on BBK’s Unplugged Podcast on Sports Live
“My vision of the situation is that Relebohile right now available for myself, for the team and we are going to use him to the best of his capacity anytime we have the opportunity, and he is fit, and he is in a good moment.
“Whatever happens in the future for him I think is something that’s going to be special. It’s going to be special for our club.
“If it’s happening, I hope it’s the right decision, it’s the right way for him, his family and it it’s not I think the guy is going to be loved here at Pirates, in Soweto, in our fan base.
“Like I said young talents they must always have the ambition to get better and not limit themselves.”
